Arise and shine: Isaiah 60

Updated: Jan 7, 2022

"Arise, קום, qum, shine, אור, or; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee. For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people; but the Lord shall arise upon thee, and His glory shall be seen upon thee. And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising. Lift up thine eyes round about, and see: all they gather themselves together, they come to thee: thy sons shall come from afar, and thy daughters shall be nursed at thy side. Then thou shall see, and flow together and thine heart shall fear, and be enlarged, because of the abundance of the sea shall be converted unto thee, the forces of the Gentiles shall come unto thee." Isaiah 60: 1-5.

In hebrew, shine and light are both "or" or "אור". Shine, H215, is described as to be luminous, break of day, glorious, set on fire, shine. Light, H216, is from the root H215, meaning illumination, luminary in every sense, including lightning, happiness, bright, clear, morning, sun. Hebrew words are word families that definitely paint a picture. The light rising in the morning and at sunset are most definitely the most beautiful moments of the day. I think of it as a holy, set apart, time of the day to meditate on that Light and Glory of the Lord. Even though dark days can bring us down, we need to remember the promise of the GLORY! With every sunrise, the dawn of the new day brings such renewal, a reset, a start over, a clean slate, a time to celebrate the goodness and glory of the Lord. If your days have felt really dark lately, remember that the light will always remain inside of His children and the darkness does not last forever. His light lives within us as believers. We have such a promise in His Word. John 1:4-5 says that the Word gave life to everything that was created, and His life brought light to everyone. But not everyone accepts the Word or His light. This is truly so sad to me. Isaiah 5:20 speaks of living in darkness, not accepting the way that was designed by our Creator for our lives. This is a hard verse to hear really. It states, "Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter. Right now this is really happening in our world. But the children of the Light need not fear, but have hope that Light always overcomes the darkness. "Arise and Shine for the Light has Come". Meditate on on "Arise" as the sun comes up the next time you see the sunrise. Feel God's light illuminating your heart, bringing happiness and clarity: clear light for a new day. Set on fire for His glory. Amen

From the Light in me to the Light in you,
