Joy: שמח, A Beautiful Word Picture

In Zephaniah 3:17, we find the the word simchah, from the verb root H#8056, sameach, שמח. The word is associated with "Blithesomeness" or "glee" as the first word described in the Strong's concordance. What a word to describe joy, "blithesomeness". I love it. To me, it paints a picture of "beyond joy". The verse says "He will rejoice over thee with JOY, H#8057, He will rest in His love, and He will "Joy", H#1523, over thee with singing. We see the word "joy" is used in English twice here, but there is a different word in Hebrew used when He pairs the Joy with singing. The singing with joy is the word גיל, which has to do with "spinning around under the influence of emotion". The word גיל, which includes the English g/ג, gimmel is the Hebrew name for the letter, and Lamed or the English L/ל, also paints an interesting word in the ancient Hebrew. GL combination of letters/גל is tied to something that is round or a second time around of a time or event. Other "family word concepts" (in Hebrew there are "word families" associated with the verbal root, so think "family tree words") is tied to "Golgatha" (Hebrew skull, think circular head) or Calvary, where Yeshua was crucified that we may live eternally. The word "גאל", has to do with redemption, restoring one to an original position. The associated word גול, is rejoicing over the birth of an infant. As I write this, I am about to become a grandmother for the first time. My daughter, Lydia and her husband Jacob, are expecting their first child, a baby girl any day. I did not begin this blog with the intention of even bringing this word up. I did not even know it had this "infant" tie before I started writing my blog today. This is just like the Spirit that leads though. When we trust in His Word, His "flow of the Spirit", we are just where we need to be focused in every moment. What "JOY" this Word study brings me today. Isn't our Heavenly Father amazing? I sing over HIM with JOY today, circling around singing His praises. Father, may I also sing your praises in the good and the bad. Father, help us all find your JOY in your perfect Word. As a Father leads a child, we trust you to bring us to our ultimate JOY in the future, when you come for us, your BRIDE. Let the "circular" singing and dancing begin with Yeshua's "Second Circling" back to get His Bride. I cannot wait.

With much JOY and SINGING of heart,

Cynthia סינתיה, Hebrew loving child of your heavenly language and word pictures.
